Safety electronics plays mare and more a key role also in the lift industry. Especially, since the normative demand for a system to recognize uncontrolled car movements with open doors these systems have spread among lifts.

In June 2015 the companies Böhnke + Partner, Cedes, ELFIN, ELGO, Intec and Kollmorgen met to define the objects and functions of a new virtual device: the 'Position Supervisor Unit', which captures safety the position and speed of the lift and provides the functions of the limit switches, limit switches in inspection mode, the UCM-monitoring among many others. The description has been submitted for inclusion in the standard at the CIA and the first tests will be performed in September at the forthcoming CANopen-Lift plugFest.
